How QA Engineer Lucian Manages to Work in Tech While Being a Full-time Dad!
Here's Lucian Mihețiu - A seasoned professional with seven years of experience in the software engineering department. Lucian is a great asset to the manual testing team, working full time as a dedicated QA within a scrum team but always having time to lend a hand to a fellow tester in need.
Outside of work, Lucian is focused on one very important thing: being a full-time dad! Besides archery and rum-topped ice cream, it's his favourite thing in the world. Learn more about Lucian below!
Why did you join BetterQA, and what has kept you here?
Joining BetterQA seemed a good opportunity for further developing my skills and a great next step on the QA journey I embarked on seven years ago. What has kept me here was getting the opportunity to board on an engaging project that keeps me anchored in Better QA's purpose and values.
Before working at BetterQA, what was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?
Being a Consultant Engineer for tailor-made installations at Biogas was probably the most 'exotic' job in my work experience – and quality assurance was a major part of that too, so I haven't veered too far from the field.
What do you find the most challenging, and what do you like most about BetterQA?
On a personal level, I'm missing the office interaction, but such are the times we are living in. So, as the Brits say, we should 'keep calm and carry on.' On the plus side, this is probably the best place you can choose if you want to develop as a QA tester, regardless of your seniority level.
What advice do you have for prospective BetterQA candidates?
Listen to Nike and if you have an opportunity to jump onboard: 'Just do it!'. It's as simple as that. We are always looking for junior and experienced testers to better our team.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren't doing this?
If I weren't a QA tester, I would probably be meddling with DBs and SQL jobs.
How do you spend your time outside of the office?
Had the answer to this question been requested a while back, there would have been a lot of items to add here, but for now, there is just one: being a full-time dad. It's the most rewarding way you can spend your time.
What's a fun fact about you many people may not know?
One of my hobbies is archery – and I think that my colleagues would be surprised to know that I enjoy pretending to be Robin Hood. Maybe we should add our favorite hobbies to our team-building activities. I'm sure they would all have fun hitting a bullseye for the first time, or at least trying.
Where's your favorite place in the world?
The no.1 spot on my list of great places is taken by Quebec City, no doubt about it. My suggestion for you all is Old Québec, regardless of the season you choose to visit. It has 400 years of fascinating history and an incredible view from every angle, so you should definitely add it to your list of great places to visit as well.
If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?
I'm not sure I want to trade places with someone else. As we each have our own battles, in choosing someone else's battles, I might find out that I do not have the strength to fight them.
What's the weirdest fact you know?
Well, maybe not a fact, but a hidden gem I've discovered is that putting extra rum on your ice cream is the best topping.
