Time to meet the Head of Web Development at Wolfpack Digital, Victor!

Why did you join Wolfpack Digital, and what has kept you here?

I was finishing University and my previous job was at a startup with a smaller team. I wanted a place that still had the fast-paced environment I really liked, but that also offered a place to learn and grow as a developer.

What has kept me here? Definitely the people. I am glad that I found what I was looking for: a team that understood how to deliver high-quality client work while also facilitating growth and learning for a developer that was at the start of his journey.

It turns out team building in Rome is a GREAT idea!

What drew you to Engineering? Have you always worked in web development roles?

I actually started as an Android developer and transitioned towards web development later. It all started as me wanting to learn as many technologies as possible, understanding the core of building powerful software products.

When our CTO offered me the opportunity to learn Ruby on Rails, I was pretty excited and took it without second thoughts. I was very lucky to have in the team some very proficient Ruby developers that helped me with learning things right from start and that reviewed my learning process along the way.

I really got to love the backend side of development and it grew on me very fast. I think that starting out on mobile development helped me better understand how the APIs can be best structured and how to learn a new technology faster than I did the first time.

What’s your next step, or a few goals you’d like to accomplish in life, or while with Wolfpack Digital?

In the past few years, we started having regular internships at Wolfpack Digital. It is when I became a mentor for these internships that I realised I love this form of knowledge sharing, setting up learning materials and helping young people structure the huge number of courses and books and tutorials that can easily become overwhelming.

I always enjoyed giving presentations or training, structuring projects from the early stages and these skills can easily be transposed towards giving back to the community. So the next step for me would probably be creating quality content for the learning community, both inside our company and for all the future devs out there.

If you could pick one theme for Wolfpack Digital to turn into a book about the company, what would it be?

I'm not sure about a theme, but I'd love to have Malcolm Gladwell write it. I think that would be great because there are so many things that could be analysed from a nonfiction perspective: like the tons of micro-decisions, we need to make every day, client communication, individual growth or working together as a team.

Overall, I think that his style could highlight how every small detail adds up to make such a great workplace.

Are you an iPhone or android type of person?

A little bit ironic that I started as an Android developer, but I use the Apple products for pretty much everything.

I switched once a few years ago and never looked back.

When are you the happiest?

Probably when I'm skiing. I love the feeling of freedom on the top of the mountain, some fresh, fluffy snow and the vibration in your knees after you reach a certain speed.

For a few years now, nothing could top that one for me.
