Time to meet one of our mobile development experts, Łukasz Kasprzyk!

What is your role at Tooploox?

Right now, it’s not so easy to describe just one role at Tooploox.

I started here as an Android Developer with some experience, and, at the start, I was focused solely on this. But my role has evolved a lot. Right now, I’m almost everywhere I can be :)

It will be easier to count out all my positions one by one:

• Lead Link of the Android Circle: We use the Holacracy structure within our company, so we might simply call it “Android Team Representative”.
• Bench Guide: Taking care of people waiting on the bench in the Android team
• Counselor (small group of people): I conduct 1-on-1 meetings with developers to check if they are happy with their current situation (on both project and company levels)
• Staff SWE (small group of people): Work to resolve all global issues related to the Engineering aspect of the company
• Allocation Watchdog (small group of people): Taking care of developer allocation within projects based on individual’s skills and business needs
• Pre-Sales with Mobile Focus: Technical support to help clients reach technical solutions through leading in-depth technical discussions with team leads, customers, and dev teams
• Hola Buddy: 1on1 support for people who have questions about Holacracy and their place in it
• Technical Support: Contact person for any topic related to the project I’m working on right now

Those are all of my officially mapped roles, but I try to help the organization everywhere and anywhere possible.

How has Tooploox helped you in your career development?

As you can see from my previous answer, I started “simply” as an Android Developer, and I am now involved in almost every part of the company’s growth.

Tooploox has given me the possibility to develop in the directions which I choose. My opinion counts here, and I get to take part in many important decisions that give direction for our company.

I have dedicated time for self-development, I have an impact on the projects I would like to work on and whenever there is an internal/external initiative, I have the opportunity to participate in them (like talks, hackathons, process improvement, etc).

All these things were made possible by the people around me. I think that here at Tooploox we have a lot of great people from whom I’ve learned a lot over the years.

How do you spend your time outside of the office?

My first and major passion is football. I've been a fan of the FC Barcelona football club since I was 10 years old and I follow every bit of news, match, and detail related to the club.

Besides that, I’m trying to keep up to date with all football news related to top leagues and International teams. I’m also a sports freak, I love to play sports (maybe besides water-based ones - I’m not really into those): football, gym, squash, tennis, cycling, etc. I love to compete and master new disciplines, so whenever I have an opportunity to do so I do not hesitate.

The next thing is fishing. Recently I haven’t had much time to do so, but I try to cultivate opportunities. I have had a fishing license since I was 12 years old. I prefer spinning over floating because I like to move a lot and get into the water (e.g. into a river).

What else… Board games. I have a bookshelf full of games, starting from some light party games and ending in some advanced euro games.Besides that, I enjoy books and movies.

How do you balance your career at Tooploox with friends & family?

I love to spend time with my family and friends. This is an essential piece of my life. To prove my words, I’ve moved away from Wrocław and bought a flat in my hometown of Bolesławiec to be close to my friends and family.

Besides just seeing each other on various yearly occasions like birthdays, holidays, etc., We (my wife and I) spend lots of time with them; either by inviting them over, visiting them, calling each other on the phone, and more.

I can say for sure that I have a group of close friends whom I’ve known for over 20 years, and we are very close (like family).

We even organize holidays like Christmas together (after everybody participates in their own family Christmas dinners, we like to meet at one place and share dinner with presents).

Tooploox is an awesome company and, besides the fact that sometimes I have late calls with clients, I have the flexibility to use my work time in the optimal way to balance friends and family time with my career.

Are you an iPhone or android type of person?

As an Android Developer, I’m loyal to Google and their operating system (especially that Google has its birthday on the same day as me).

My wife uses an iPhone daily, so I’m familiar with the OS as I also work on a Mac. Comparing those two operating systems, I prefer Android because it's a “more open” system, meaning you can adjust the device how you want, with different launchers, rooting, etc.

People mostly complain about the performance of devices with an Android OS, but they are mostly unaware that all manufacturers, like Samsung, Xiaomi, etc., have their launchers and adjustments. This means that this is not a “clean Android” as we have with the iOS and iPhone.

I am aware of this, which is why I have owned a Pixel device (a clean Android device produced by Google) for a few years (updating my device from time to time).

What are your three most overused words/phrases?

Good question...I do not think I have ones (even my wife can’t answer that for me), but I’ll try - I would focus on those I overuse at work:

• Process
• Paraphrase
• Etc!
