Time to meet our Head of People, Joanna Reszewska!

How do you spend your time outside of the office?

My free time is filled with sports and gaming.

I fell in love with aerial sports, especially pole dance. My best ideas come to me when I am hanging upside down, 2.5 meters over the ground. My newest discovery is acro yoga - it's an acrobatics routine performed in pairs.

As a ‘flyer,’ I need to trust my partner (the ‘base’) as I have no contact with the ground in most exercises. Good training for any control freak.

When it comes to gaming, I play tabletop RPGs, like Dungeons & Dragons, as a Game Master. I enjoy making others feel powerful and strong, so I design adventures where other players can become heroes, defeating evil wizards and other such threats.

How do you balance your career at Tooploox with friends & family?

Tooploox is not a typical 9 to 5 job. We have a lot of flexibility, ownership, and commitment, though it comes with the price. Sometimes I do catch myself working extra hours.

Luckily, my team pays close attention to that as well and helps me to achieve a healthy work-life balance.

Are you an iPhone or android type of person?

Definitely an Android person. Old habits die hard.

Also, Android gives me a strong sci-fi vibe!

What are your three most overused words/phrases?

A sentence without ‘generally’ just feels empty!

Joanna Reszewska from Tooploox

What is your role at Tooploox?

My formal title is Head of People, but we work in a Holacratic structure, so I have a set of roles I perform regularly.

I match responsibilities with Team Member’s aspirations and skills, I analyze our HR metrics and clarify priorities, I design and lead the salary review process, I recruit, or at least help in recruitment processes, whenever I can and, finally, I intervene each time there's a new HR problem set on the table and we don't know how to address it yet.

I like to think that I’m a guidepost that helps others to achieve their goals and overcome obstacles.

How has Tooploox helped you in your career development?

From day one, the Tooploox team has put their trust in me.

I started in 2016 as a Junior Office Manager. Thanks to the flexibility of my team, I was able to combine work and my studies. I was given responsibility for meaningful tasks and trust from the very start. I received access to company accounts, managed orders, coordinated company events, and took over responsibility for contracting benefits and managing company accounts as admin.

After three months and the onboarding of new Office Managers, I was given the opportunity to continue my career in Tooploox and chose recruitment as my new focus. Despite having very little experience in this field, Tooploox decided to give me the chance.

In every step I take, I am not alone.

In cooperation with a great Culture and People Specialist, who became my mentor, I took over some of our recruitment processes.

In 2017, we began to expand our recruitment team and started dealing with other HR-related topics, such as feedback culture in the company and employer branding initiatives.

In late 2018, our founders entrusted us with the salary review process and helped us during this transition of responsibility.

Now, as I still feel very new to the role of team leader, I am supported by one of the Founders, external consultants, and other leaders in the company.And finally, I have the freedom to take limitless paths and test myself in a variety of fields. I have had the opportunity to test myself in the realms of employer branding, mediations, data analytics, internal training, team leading, and countless other projects.
