This is Andreia Timóteo. Having achieved a Masters of Chemical Engineering in 2016 at the University of Coimbra, she is still in touch with her programming side. She’s been at Glintt since November 2017 and some say that her decision to change careers was the best she has ever made! She’s originally from Peniche, Portugal, and in her free time, she likes to hit the gym, go to the beach, enjoy a good stand-up comedy show, or just relax with a good old Netflix film.

After work, she likes to have a few beers with her colleagues (aka friends) from Glintt.

Why did you join Glintt, and what has kept you here?

My first job after graduation was disastrous, responsible for the quality department at a plastic production facility, I realised this could not be what I would be doing for the rest of my life. I knew I had to make a change, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life.

An opportunity came up for me to join a .NET starter crash course and I thought “well, I like to program, so this could be fun”. I did it and after three months, I was at Glintt. I put in hard work throughout the trainee program and the internship. Eventually, I was offered a full-time position in February 2019. I’ve been with the company since, and am not planning on leaving anytime soon!

Professionally, Glintt made me want to stay because it has given me room to grow and to explore what technologies I enjoy working with the most. Additionally, it has opened doors of opportunity and has supported my goal of pursuing a career in management.

Personally, Glintt made me want to stay because of my team. I have worked in a lot of places (mostly summer jobs, but also as a full-time employee) and I have never met a company where the environment was as family-like as here. My colleagues are my friends, we share a lot of our lives outside of work and we support each other in every aspect.

How has Glintt helped you in your career development?

Glintt has given me the tools to become the best professional I could be at this stage and with the experience I have. This company gives a lot of different opportunities to employees to develop hard skills as well as soft skills. I feel like my superiors really value my presence in the company and that their efforts are to ensure that I am where I want to be, and what I aspire for myself.

What is the favorite part about working for Glintt?

My favourite part is working with my team. Every time we see each other, especially now during covid, we would almost act like kids. I really miss working at the office because of its environment. What I miss the most are the breaks we used to have. During lunch breaks, we would usually play cards or board games to get our minds off of work, or go for a walk around the block to give our legs some exercise. Even with this goofiness between us, the work always gets done, and with quality. And we help each other out even if we’re not working on the same project. We share doubts, we share concerns and we solve our individual problems as teams.

How do you describe your work personality vs. your home life personality?

I would say that my work personality and my home life personality are the same. I feel comfortable enough with the people I work with that I can just be myself, on good terms and bad terms! I have strong opinions when I think something is unfair or if I think it’s just wrong.

Everybody is a little bit crazy once you build up enough confidence in the environment you’re in. Fortunately I found a group of friends in the company that allow me to be myself, craziness included. When I’m working directly with clients, I tend to refrain from that part of myself in order to be more professional. I usually speak my mind, even with clients, but I’ve also learnt that there are a lot of ways to say something without hurting anybody's feelings.

When are you the happiest?

I can say that I have a lot of things that make me happy in life. Fortunately, I have a lot of really good friends and my family is just the best! So I am truly happy when I just get to spend some time with any of them. But what makes me the happiest is when I get to spend time with my beautiful nephew! My heart just melts when he says “I love you, beautiful” and then gives me a kiss goodnight.

What is the best vacation you’ve been to?

I spent 3 weeks in Dubai in June 2021 visiting my nephew (he lives there with his parents) and we had a blast doing all sorts of activities like going to the beach, going up to the Burj Khalifa, going on a boat ride around the Dubai Marina, site seeing the Palm (islands shaped like a palm tree), going to the desert and visiting a butterfly garden!

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Avocado toast with a poached egg on top. Every. Single. Day. Or… A smoked salmon sandwich with cream cheese and some lettuce or rucola. Because, you know, smoked salmon is life. I can’t pick one! I guess the avocado toast could also have the rucola and the smoked salmon…. Yep! That’s it! A combination of the two!

What's your motto or personal mantra?

I don’t really know who said it first but… “Assumptions are the mother of all f*ckups”. I just think it’s beautiful. And so, so true.

What are you best known for at the office?

Some of my coworkers say that I scream a lot, and that I’m always enthusiastic about everything. There’s a running joke that when I start to talk about anything, some people (like Ricardo, who’s in the first picture and is known for embarrassing me) starts to say “Hey, hey… Calm down… There’s no need for you to start screaming… We’re cool…” even though I wasn’t screaming in the first place!!

We are thrilled to have Andreia as a part of our team at Glintt since we feel that she represents the team spirit of our people and is a great reflection of the personalities we attract (and want to keep attracting) to the company.
