A wild front-end developer has appeared! It's Alek!
Meet Alek Rutherford, one of the newest front-end developers in Hypernova Labs. He started working with us in 2020, and despite all the hurdles we have been going through during the pandemic, he has proved himself to be a valuable member of the team. If you don’t find Alek spending countless hours programming, you can look for him playing video games or practicing martial arts.
Find more about the mysterious life of Alek below and get a glimpse of our team.

Since we don’t have a picture of Alek in the office, here is a Happy Alek worth 7 years of good luck
Why did you join Hypernova Labs, and what has kept you here?
I started working during my sophomore year of college. I took the initiative to gain some working experience since I don't want to wait until I graduate, which led me to work as an intern for two companies. That helped me have a clear sight of what to expect from this working area.
I learned about Hypernova Labs from two classmates that were working here at that time. They told me that it was a small company that works for various projects using some of the latest technologies for web and mobile development, which caught my attention. Feeling very confident from my previous jobs, I decided to give it a shot.
I have been in the company for almost a year, and it has been a very satisfactory experience for me. There have been good projects and some difficult ones, but what has helped me continue improving myself and working here is the goodwill and availability of my colleagues.
What do you find to be the most exciting aspect of Hypernova Labs?
I quite like that most of the development team are young people and very close to my age, so it has been easy for me to establish a good relationship with them thanks to the similar tastes we have, which also helps to have an enjoyable work environment. Of course, this does not preclude my having a good relationship with those members who are older than me.
How have Hypernova Labs helped you in your career development?
I have had the opportunity to work on several projects, which have shown me that it is fundamental to be flexible within the different frameworks that one works.
Previously, I preferred to be in my comfort zone and work with what I know, but thanks to the opportunities that have been presented to me, I have been able to learn new technologies and work methodologies that will be very useful in the rest of my professional life.

Do you have any hobbies, go-to weekend activities, or long-term passion projects you’re working on?
Besides programming, which is ironically one of my biggest hobbies, I am a big fan of video games and series, so I spend a lot of time in front of the computer playing and watching Netflix. On the other hand, I also like martial arts and have practiced them since I was a child.
Currently, I am more dedicated to training in styles oriented to self-defense like MMA and KravMaga since this is something that I am very passionate about and I follow very often.
What is the next life milestone you want to achieve?
I´m in my senior year of college, so one of my short-term goals is to graduate and get my degree; after that, I would like to get a scholarship and continue my studies abroad, maybe in Canada or Europe.
How do you balance your career at Hypernova Labs and friends & family?
It is not an easy task, since I am still studying and working at the same time. Maintaining a balance between both is difficult, but not impossible. That's why I do my best to organize my days; being as productive as I can in my studies and my job, and leaving time for the activities I like, such as spending time with my loved ones.
I know that in the end my studies and the experience that I obtain in my work will bring many benefits to my life.
Are you an iPhone or Android type of person?
This is a funny one, but I am and will forever be an Android user, no questions asked. I don't belong to the iPhone trend.
What's your favorite quote, or motto?
I try to live my life with this interesting quote from Albert Einstein that said:
"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand."
If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and why?
I like to meet Albert Einstein. I have read a lot about his life and how he saw the world, and I found brilliant the perspective he had of us as individuals. I believe he was living at his fullest at that time, but also looking beyond it.
Physics is not my best subject, but I like to read his theories since they seem to be extracted from a science fiction movie. They are easy to understand, but they are very accurate to what is present to us in today's world.
