Commencis is a leading technology company in digital transformation with top talent and individuals who are empowered to use a diversified set of new technology and tools. I always wanted to be a part of a company that considers both emerging technologies and employee quality. Commencis is a great match for fulfilling these requirements. What keeps me here is the highly qualified team members on my project that encourages me to do my very best while developing new skills.
One of the unique challenges of my role as a Data Scientist in Commencis is that I work alone in my project which sometimes drives me to have some doubts about the algorithmic and technical decisions that is specific to this field. However, being the mere Data Scientist has positive outcomes, too. To be able to complete my tasks as a data scientist, I have developed some additional skills related to architectural and data engineer-roles. This has immensely broadened my existing perspective. Day by day I feel more self-confident while pursing my daily tasks with this type of working schedule.
I’m working closely with the team of Dataroid - our big data analytics and customer engagement platform. Most of the time, the Dataroid team has a tight working schedule, even in the lunch and dinner times. As a team bonding activity, last year in November we managed to organize a team dinner after work. We met in a Greek-themed restaurant. One of our team members were about to marry and this was a chance to celebrate that too. That dinner was one of the best memories with my team since I spent quality time to get to know my teammates and had so much fun.
Long walks outside is the name of the game.
My favourite spare time activity is drawing. I started to draw early on and my first exhibition was held in my high school. I like to draw charcoal sketches.
Drawing aside, I love living an active life. It helps me to refresh my mind and release surplus energy. Before the pandemic I used to go to the gym even in the evening after work; however, nowadays I am only able to have long walks outside with my music on. So, if possible, I do that every day.
In addition, I like writing articles. Especially in these times of remote work. I got used to reading technical articles related to data science. To not forget what I read and research, I focus on converting and repurposing them into Medium articles in parallel.
Most of the time, I feel a deep responsibility for the activities that I enjoy while performing them. The feeling of being responsible encourages me to strive and achieve all I can. Regardless of the topic, I am working on, the moment I feel like I am doing a good job, I feel pure happiness as it signals to me that I am on the right track.
Most of the individuals tend to spend their time on their job and the rest of the time with their family and friends. If we are not happy in our current jobs, then we are not happy employees which cumulatively leads to an unhappy community. For this reason, the events that guide us to the fields that we now work shall be labelled as the main highlights in our lives. From this point of view, my first highlight is choosing my high school that had an excellent English education system both in literature and technical terms with its respective teachers. As for the second one, I can safely highlight my choice of Industrial Engineering Double Major program in addition to Software Engineering. Finally, I can list starting a Master’s Degree in Software Engineering at Bosphorus University where I gained most of the skills that I use in my current job.
Important to snap a picture during walks in nature - a compulsory activity 😅
Back in my days, I found the opportunity to play the piano for a short period of time. If given the chance, I would like to be in the shoes of Ludovico Einaudi. I genuinely think is the best pianist alive in the world right now.
The reason why I would make this choice is that every single day, I am eager to understand what kind of feelings, moods and inspirations are required to compose such heavenly and hypnotizing melodies. Especially for the composition titled “Experience / Circles” which is still my top song since the day it was released.
I have had an ever-growing interest in Astronomy since I was little. Stars, other planets, comets, galaxies, and other terms always draw my attention which eventually led me to attend Astronomy Club in high school. For this reason, I would really like to be a witness of one of the most fascinating events in human history which is the landing on the Moon.
Working in the most dynamic project in a fast-paced technology company leads its employees to become proactive teammates. As a result, we are focusing on precautious actions before it happens. As one of the most used phrases, I can highlight firstly “I will be doing …” which do not belong to Turkish language tense structure. As the second and third phrases can be listed as “I will be sending a Teams Meeting” and “Just a quick call” which are dramatically increased during the remote working days.
