Future Mind is the dynamic and efficient organization that you all know thanks to the many amazing individuals that make it work day in and day out. Whether you’re a potential Client or a prospective staff member, you might want to get to know some of our employees – what they think about Future Mind, how they ended up here, and what they love doing in their free time.
Coming up first: Radek Gorczyca, an animal lover who works as an Android Developer.
I worked as an Android developer for three years before I joined Future Mind, but I didn’t really enjoy my previous jobs. I always formed part of small teams where I couldn’t really learn from my peers, and the company focus was always to push out applications as quickly as possible – without much regard for quality or good practices. Needless to say, I found it quite frustrating.
Then, a message from a Future Mind representative appeared in my LinkedIn inbox. I really liked the way it was described, and the contact person answered all my questions and set up an interview. I was a bit anxious because I felt like my skill level may not be enough, but I decided to give it a go.
I really enjoyed the recruitment process at Future Mind. I was used to endless theory-based technical calls or boring tests that I’d complete without ever getting any feedback. Here at FM, however, it works a bit differently.
Radek from his remote work location
I first did a test task and only then had a technical interview where a senior developer discussed my performance and asked me insightful questions. I wasn’t even a part of the company yet, but I could already feel like I was learning new things.
I got to justify my choices and discover new ways of looking at the same problem. In the end, it seems that my perspective was seen as valuable – I received an offer and I immediately accepted! My previous company had changed my contract to a less binding one because of the pandemic, so I was free to leave quite quickly, and so I did.
It was honestly quite shocking but in a good way! I had so much knowledge thrown at me from all directions. I mean both organizational and technical information, guidebooks, procedure explanations, you name it.
I was also amazed to see that the team held weekly meetings where we can all share knowledge with each other. Sometimes, one programmer will study a certain subject in-depth and then explain it to everyone else in the meeting.
Other times, we might discuss new features and updates to technologies that we use a lot. All in all, it suffices to say that a lot of learning happens every week, and that is exactly what I want from a job. In my first weeks at Future Mind, I learned more than I did in a few years at my previous jobs. It might sound hard to believe, but it was actually the case.
The pace of it all, I guess! I’m extremely happy that I can learn so much from other team members, but it also means that I have to work really hard. At times, I’m a bit self-conscious about my code, especially when senior programmers verify my pull requests.
That never really happened at my previous job, which can tell you a lot about how much (or rather how little) they cared about quality. This pull requests thing stressed me a little in the beginning, but fortunately, my colleagues are really gentle with their comments.
I don’t really get criticized – I just get suggestions for how things could be improved and resources for where I can learn more about certain methods or approaches.
Something that had me really impressed when I first started working here was how professional it all feels – how projects are managed and how great our designers collaborate with programmers.
Project work is always well planned out and larger tasks are broken down into smaller chunks. Meanwhile, our designers always deliver their work in a way that leaves no room for doubt. I always know exactly what I’m supposed to do when I receive their designs.
I’m a bit of an introvert and I work completely remotely, so I haven’t been able to make any friends, but I really like all the banter that goes on on our Slack. I’m really looking forward to our trip to Mazury so I can get to know everyone!
I’m from Zwoleń, I lived in Kraków for a few months, then I did my degree at Sosnowiec and I’m living in Katowice right now. This might be a surprising choice, but I actually loved living in student dorms in Sosnowiec! I met many great people there.
My main hobbies are all connected to animals – I guess they’re my biggest passion! I do a lot of horse riding and I also spend lots of time with my dog, Teddy. I got him from a dog shelter a few months ago and we’ve been inseparable ever since!
I first wanted to get a corgi, but I had some bad experiences with dog breeders, and in the end, I’m really happy I ended up with Teddy. I’ve also done some archery in the past, but now I mostly focus on horses and training my puppy!
Introducing 🥁 ...Teddy!
I still remember how proud and happy I was when, as an 18-year-old, I organized a two-week-long camp for boy scouts. I feel like I taught them a lot about life and good manners over those two weeks, and we formed an emotional connection.
We all cried when the camp was over, and it was an incredible feeling to influence so many young minds! I hope they still remember that summer.
It's the sea for me! Maybe because that camp I told you about was organized at the seacoast. I also like lakes, maybe because that’s where I’d always go with my family as a kid. I’m not much of a traveler though. I just like lying on the beach and drinking cocktails!
Aperol Spritz. And I know I’m not the only one!
It’s definitely Lady Gaga! She’s so controversial, and I love it. I’d like to talk to her about her life: what it was like before she became famous, then at the height of controversy like when she wore the meat dress, and now that she’s showing us who she really is.
We’re really happy that Radek decided to join Future Mind – it’s been great having him on board! If you have any questions or want to get to know Radek or one of his colleagues from the Android team, we can put you in touch. Don’t hesitate to reach out!
