Time to meet the Backend Team Lead at Despark, Ivan!

How did you first learn about Despark?

There was a tech meetup organised by Despark in the beginning of 2015.

The culture, energy and dedication shown by the team were really inspiring.

Until that moment I have never seen people so passionate about what they do, the impact of it and the strive to innovate.

On the way home I remember saying to myself "One day I'm going to join this company!".

Who said 1:1 meetings aren't fun?

Why did you join Despark, and what has kept you here?

Еverything just clicked. I really wanted to put my energy into meaningful products and work with people who care.

The team culture here enables everyone to do the things they like the most and try new ones. Empathy is one of our core values and there is always someone who can help you with anything - a few desks or clicks away.

How has Despark helped you in your career development?

When I started as a backend developer I was seeing myself continuing on the path of the individual contributor role. At that time I had never imagined myself having a client-facing or leading a team.

Despark gave me an opportunity to take more ownership and responsibility which gave me a new perspective, opening my eyes to see the bigger picture.

Now, a few years after that moment, talking with clients, seeing teammates and projects succeed are the things that motivate me the most.

What are your primary responsibilities and what does your day-to-day look like?

Usually when someone asks me about what I do, I say “I try to see the big picture. In everything.”.

From understanding the business goals to team, architecture, infrastructure, execution and delivery.

I'm Involved in almost every step of the process in order to help with guidance, counseling and move potential roadblocks ahead of time.

What is your proudest moment at Despark?

We were on our way to a on-site visit to one of our clients to discuss the future roadmap and meet some of the people we haven't met in person.

As all of our projects this also had a mission - it was aimed at young parents to guide them through the journey from pregnancy to taking care of an infant.

While walking on the platform to my train I glanced at a person holding a phone who was running the application we were developing. Seeing your work living out in the wild - it's one of the greatest feelings.

How do you spend your time outside of the office?

Cooking, traveling, driving/working on cars (I love cars!) and spending too much time going through multiple wikipedia rabbit holes.
